Mr. Marcus Chew, the CEO of Energy Drilling, recently delivered a captivating presentation at the PTTEP SSHE Forum 2023. He immediately captured the audience’s attention with his engaging technique, posing a thought-provoking rhetorical question: “What is the greatest challenge facing your organisation today?” He followed up with another question: “What are you doing about it?” This set the stage for a thought-provoking presentation on leadership, the importance for leaders to demonstrate commitment and consistency, and how Energy Drilling is addressing these challenges.
Our CEO visited the offshore rig, Guo Hai Tai He (GHTH), where he delivered an address to the rig crew stressed the importance of safety and the need for a strong safety culture. The rig crew delighted in having the CEO visit and Mr Chew expressed his joy in visiting the rig and sharing time with the team. Trust was a central theme in his speech. He emphasised the crucial role of trust in the workplace and the importance of mutual respect among colleagues. He stated emphatically that trust and respect can only be earned not demanded and we earned them by our deeds not by our words. He also urged the team to consistently adopt safe work practices and to have faith in the system to achieve positive and enduring results. Good things happen when we stay consistent and stick to our safety policies and procedures.
Mr. Chew’s dedication to the company and his personal connection with all employees were also evident in his speech. He expressed his pride in founding and being part of Energy Drilling and in being there with the offshore team. He called on everyone to commit to creating a safety culture where they are devoted to each other, leading to positive results and a better workplace.
In conclusion, the CEO’s visit to the offshore rig reaffirmed Energy Drilling’s commitment to achieving Goal Zero by emphasising the importance of trust, consistent adoption of safe work practices, and a strong safety culture. As your leader, I understand that trust must be earned, not given. It is my solemn duty to work tirelessly to earn your trust every day, through my actions, my words, and my policies. I will always be honest with you, even when the truth may be hard to hear. I will always be accountable for my actions, and I will always put your needs first.

It is about putting aside our differences and coming together as one, united and determined to create a happier and safer place to work in.
